ABTTF President: “We hope that these positive steps will be continued and other Ottoman-Turkish monuments in our country, such as the hammam in Napflio, which are idle and dilapidated, will be restored as soon as possible. Indeed, all these monuments are part of the common cultural heritage of our country and our homeland as well as the world and must be protected’’.
According to the statement made by the Greek Ministry of Culture, the historical hammam from the Ottoman Empire in the city of Nafplio will be restored.
Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni pointed out that the aforementioned hammam is one of the unique architectural works of its period and the only hammam complex in the city of Nafplio and indicated that it was decided to restore the hammam built in the 18th century as a result of the on-site inspection two years ago. Mendoni further noted that the final architectural study for its restoration will be prepared based on the results of the archaeological research to be carried out in order to determine all the original parts of the hammam that have survived to the present day and the individual building phases.
“The restoration of the historic Ottoman-Turkish hammam in Nafplio by the Ministry of Culture is very pleasing news. With his statement, Minister of Culture Mendoni has shown that she attaches great importance to the restoration of the hammam, which is part of the cultural heritage of our country. Mendoni had recently visited Didymoteicho and examined the ongoing restoration works at the Sultan Çelebi Mehmet (Beyazıt) Mosque. We hope that these positive steps will continue and other Ottoman-Turkish artefacts in our country, such as the hammam in Nafplio will be restored as soon as possible. Indeed, all these monuments are part of the common cultural heritage of our country and our homeland as well as the world and must be protected’’, said Halit Habip Oğlu, President of the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF).
