Intolerance is at an extreme stage again when it comes to Ottoman-Turkish monuments in Greece!

18.08.2020

ABTTF President: “Ottoman-Turkish monuments in Greece are an integral part of our country’s historical and cultural heritage. The Greek press is now continuing its provocative news coverage by targeting the German Ambassador to Athens, who shared a photo of the Fethiye Mosque in Ioannina.”

The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Athens Dr. Ernst Reichel who shared a photo of the Ottoman-Turkish monument Fethiye Mosque in Ioannina, Greece, on his social media account has become the target of criticism in the Greek press.

According to the Birlik newspaper, the comments in the Greek media indicated the need for Ambassador Dr. Reichel to be called upon to the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and thus to ask him why he published on the social media platform Twitter about Fethiye Mosque and Ioannina Governor of the Ottoman Empire Tepedelenli Ali Pasha.

“The fact that the large majority of Ottoman-Turkish monuments in our country Greece which have succeeded to continue to remain standing till today have been used for years by other means than its purpose is a reality. Many mosques in various cities are kept closed to prayer. The Fethiye Mosque in Ioannina is one of them. That being the case, it is hard to understand and accept that the Greek press continues its provocative news coverage by targeting the German Ambassador to Athens, who shared a photo of Fethiye Mosque”, said Halit Habip Oğlu, President of the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF)
