Golden Dawn party members smash stalls run by immigrants in Rafina, near Athens

ABTTF President Halit Habipoğlu: Unless immediate measures are taken, we will witness increasing acts of violence in different parts of the country

The members of the political party Golden Dawn (Chrysi Avgi) inspected the permits and documents of those who opened stall in the market set up on the occasion of religious feast in Rafina, near to the Greek capital Athens, and smashed the stalls run by immigrants as they did not have the the required permits. The group consisting of 30 persons, among whom two deputies of the Golden Dawn were also present, destroyed the marketplace.

Following the assault carried out by the Golden Dawn in Rafina, the Greek Ministry of Public Order stated the police launched an investigation and it will be applied through public prosecutorship to the Parliament to revoke the political immunity of those deputies who took part in the action. In the statement released on the website of the Golden Dawn, it is said, “The members of the Golden Dawn did what the non-existing Greek State should have done a long time ago. Similar actions will continue across the country.”

Golden Dawn marches again in Komotini

The Golden Dawn members with pick-ups and motorcycles held a parade on Sunday evening, 9 September through the streets of Komotini. According to the daily Birlik, the group consisting of 50 persons organized its first event on the occasion of the establishment of the Golden Dawn’s Rhodopi province branch. The group carrying Greek flags in hands drove close by the Turkish General Consulate in Komotini. The police blocked the roads to the General Consulate in order to prevent a potential attack.

“The statement made by the Golden Dawn with regard to the assault in Rafina that they did what the Greek State should have done a long time ago summarizes the threat of Golden Dawn today in Greece. Faced with this situation, the Greek Government must take immediate steps. Otherwise, we will witness in the near future increasing acts of violence again in different parts of the country again.” said Halit Habipoğlu, President of the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF).
