ABTTF is organising a webinar regarding the non-execution of ECtHR judgments on Western Thrace Turkish associations by Greece

28.05.2021

Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF) with the support of MEP François Alfonsi is organising on 2 June 2021 an online panel discussion entitled “The Long-Standing Problem of Non-Execution of ECtHR’s Judgments by Greece: The Bekir Ousta and Others Group of Cases”.

The online panel discussion will focus on the non-execution of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) judgments which have been continuing for a long time with respect to the Western Thrace Turkish associations under the Bekir Ousta and Others group of cases.

The panel will discuss the issue of the non-execution by Greece of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights which had ruled in 2007 and 2008 on a violation of the freedom of assembly and association (Article 11) following the applications made by the Xanthi Turkish Union to the ECtHR which had been closed on grounds that it supported the existence of an ethnic Turkish minority in Greece and with respect to the non-registration by national courts of associations such as the Cultural Association of Turkish Women of the Rodopi Province (Emin and Others) and the Evros Prefecture Minority Youth Association (Bekir Ousta and Others) which had been established by members of the Turkish community in Western Thrace.

At its meeting on 7-9 June 2021, the Committee of Ministers, which will re-examine the Bekir Ousta and Others group of cases, has instructed the Secretariat to draft an interim resolution to consider if Greece has not made concrete progress in executing individual measures by then.

The program of the panel, which will be moderated by ABTTF International Relations Director Melek Kırmacı Arik, is as follows:
