The wildfires have been raging on for days in our country Greece and our motherland Türkiye.
About 40 thousand people were evacuated from their homes and hotels, while the wildefire, which has been raging on for more than a week on the island of Rhodes and damaged 145 thousand acres, reached the residential areas. While 19 thousand people were evacuated on Saturday night, July 22, it was stated that the evacuation operation in question was the biggest evacuation operation ever carried out in our country.
Our motherland Türkiye supported our country by sending 2 firefighting planes and 1 firefighting helicopter with a 9-person flight crew, upon the instruction of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to fight the ongoing wildfires in Rhodes.While the wildfires in Rhodes continued to spread uncontrollably, a forest fire broke out on the island of Corfu on Sunday evening, July 23. Due to the fire, 12 settlements on the island were evacuated.
In our motherland Türkiye wildfires broke out in Manisa, Kahramanmaraş, Antalya, Bursa and Muğla. While fires in Manisa, Bursa, Kahramanmaraş and Muğla are under control, the fire in Antalya continues.
