ABTTF President Halit Habip Oğlu: “We strongly condemn this despicable and provocative act targeting the Turkish Minority in Western Thrace. We call on the relevant authorities in Greece to address this incident not merely as a case of vandalism, but within the context of the deepening climate of hatred directed at our Minority, and to identify the perpetrators as soon as possible and bring them to justice”.
On Sunday, 13 September 2026, offensive statements were written on the exterior wall at the entrance of the Çınar Mosque in Xanthi by an unidentified person or persons.
As the Presidium of the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF) and the ABTTF family, we strongly condemn this vile and provocative act targeting the Turkish Minority in Western Thrace. As ABTTF, we will not remain silent in the face of hatred, discrimination, and provocation targeting the Turkish Minority in Western Thrace, and we will continue to defend the rights and peace of our community.
“The act of writing insulting messages on the wall of the Çınar Mosque cannot be dismissed as a mere act of vandalism. The targeting of a sacred site belonging to the Turkish Minority in Western Thrace in this manner once again lays bare the dangerous extent to which the climate of hatred directed at us has reached. We call on the relevant authorities in Greece to conduct an effective and comprehensive investigation, taking into account the motives behind the incident, to bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible, and to take decisive steps to prevent the climate of hatred targeting the Turkish Minority in Western Thrace from intensifying further’’, said Halit Habip Oğlu, President of the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF).
