ABTTF has been invited to European Basic Right Platform

07.12.2007
Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF) has been invited to the foundation works of European Basic Rights Platform which will function under European Basic Rights Agency. ABTTF will participate the advisory meetings in Brussels between 10-11 December.

European Basic Rights Agency which is working under Council of Europe aims to prevent racism and discrimination throughout Europe. European Union that has a permanent determination to enhance the struggle against racism and discrimination throughout Europe decided to found European Basic Rights Platform to run the efforts more efficiently.

The advisory meetings to which ABTTF was as well invited aim to determine the criteria for the foundation of the platform and for the minority organizations that are to become a member. After determining the membership criteria, the minority organizations that satisfy those conditions will become foundation members of the platform.

ABTTF has become a known and respected establishment throughout Europe

Halit Habipoglu commented on the invitation for ABTTF to participate the foundation meetings of the Platform in Brussels and said that that invitation was very significant in means of proving that ABTTF became a respected international non-governmental minority establishment which was accepted by European Union.

Habipoglu underlined that ABTTF did not make any application to be invited to the foundation meetings and that invitation by European Union was totally a result of being a member of ECOSOC.

“We did not make any request to any establishment to participate the foundation meetings. European Union invited ABTTF himself. It is so clear that ABTTF became a respected minority establishment throughout Europe. EU’ invitation is to be regarded as signal of this. Meanwhile, Platform will be the EU’s legal body to take the necessary action against racism and discrimination throughout Europe and we will be more active by becoming a member of the Platform. Thus, we will be able to present the problems of Western Thrace Turkish minority on international platforms more effectively. ” said Habipoglu.
