CAFER ALİOĞLU

Background

Born in 1934 in Sakarkaya of Xanthi, Mr. Alioğlu has completed his education in Thessaloniki pedagogical formation courses followed by his graduation from Kepirtepe Pedagogical High School. He served as a teacher at minority schools in Western Thrace, in the villages of Horozlu, Bekirli, Ficilli, Tarasmanli, Sakarkaya, as well as in the Xanthi Turkish Minority School. During his tenure of service, he had been subject to administrative restraint and persecution of the Greek government. He served as General Secretary of the Xanthi Turkish Union in 1958. In 1959, Mr. Alioğlu was elected President to the Xanthi Turkish Union, which was followed by chairing its Audit Board in 1960.

Due to the restrictions and increasing pressure, Mr. Alioğlu had to resign from his profession as a teacher and migrated to Germany as guest worker in 1971. Mr. Alioğlu has actively been involved with mobilization of the Western Thrace Turks living in Germany and he contributed to the efforts for uniting the respective minority under an umbrella organization. He has been elected president to the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Germany during the first general assembly of the organization held on 28 February 1988. Mr. Alioğlu has served the Federation as president during six years from 1988 to 1994. Throughout his tenure, he has been in charge of international advocacy of the rights of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority that faced assimilation policies thus harsh restrictions in terms of fundamental rights and freedoms. He initiated the idea of supporting the late Dr. Sadık Ahmet, the veteran defender of the Minority’ rights, on civil society level as well as pursuing efforts for the recognition of the Minority’s problems on the international arena.

Having moved back to Bursa following his retirement, Mr. Alioğlu collected his studies in a book named “The European Front of the Case of Western Thrace 1982-1994”. Mr. Alioğlu still continues advocacy of the Minority through his articles and participation at the conferences. Mr. Alioğlu is father of three sons.



MEHMET MEHMET

Background

Born in 1945 in Sapes district of Komotini, Mr. Mehmet graduated from Haydarpaşa High School and moved to Germany in 1973. Having started his involvement in civil society organizations through social participation, Mr. Mehmet played an active role in foundation of Stuttgart Western Thrace Turks Family Union in 1979. As a founding member of the Münchingen Turkish Sport Club in 1980, Mr. Mehmet served as president for two terms in addition to his contributions as a board member at different fields of the club’ activities.Having served as founding member at the Board of Stuttgart Western Thrace Turks Family Union, Mr. Mehmet has been elected president to the organization in 1986. He also contributed to the efforts in the establishment of Germany Western Thrace Turks Federation; Mr. Mehmet has taken up crucial tasks within the administration and management of newly established organization.

Elected president to the Federation at its seventh General Assembly held in 1994, Mr. Mehmet served in post for one term. 



HALİT HABİP OĞLU

Background

Born in Mirana of the city of Komotini in Greece in 1965, Mr. Habip Oğlu lives in Germany since 1973. Having graduated from Bochum Technical High School, Mr. Habip Oğlu completed his university education at Dortmund University Faculty of Architecture following the initial part of his education in the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Cologne.

In 1988 Mr. Habip Oğlu actively contributed to efforts in foundation of Witten Western Thrace Turks Solidarity Association that he served three terms as General Secretary and one term as President. In 1991, he was elected to the Board of the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Germany and served as General Secretary and Spokesperson in charge of Media. Being elected President to the Federation at its 8th General Assembly in 1995, Mr. Habip Oğlu served in post three terms until 1999. After having a break due to personal reasons, Mr. Habip Oğlu resumed his duties as President of the Federation in 2002 and he is currently the serving head of the organisation.

During Mr. Habip Oğlu’s tenure Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Germany has extended its reach-out and was named Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe. Equally, the annual general assembly of the organization has started to summon every two years. Dedicated efforts have been given as to carry the human rights violations perpetuated against Western Thrace Turks to the international arena.

Mr. Habip Oğlu was board member of Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) Youth in Witten and its great region. Having been elected to the Working Group on Migration of the SPD in Witten, Mr. Habip Oğlu had also served as Vice-Chair to the assembly on integration. Halit Habip Oğlu has been elected Vice-President for a term of three years to Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN), an umbrella organization ABTTF is a member as well, during its General Assembly held in June 2013.

Working as architect in municipality of Witten, Halit Habip Oğlu is married with three children.



NECMİ HASANOĞLU

Background

Born in Komotini in Greece in 1965, Mr. Hasanoğlu studied Turkish Philology and Literatur in Istanbul after graduating from Bursa High School. Living in London since 1991, between 1992 and 2000 Hasanoğlu served as President to England Western Thrace Turks Solidarity Association. Having joined the board of Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe in 1996 as Vice-President, Mr. Hasanoğlu served ABTTF as President from 1999 to 2002. As a journalist from profession, Mr. Hasaoğlu’s articles are published in several dailies and journals. Mr. Hasaoğlu is married with two daughters.
