European Commission supports FUEN-campaign with a grant of 400,000 Euro for multilingualism and linguistic diversity in Europe
FUEN and the European minorities have reason to be pleased. According to the communication from the European Commission in Brussels, FUEN will receive a project grant of 400,000 Euro. The project is funded from the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Commission in the period 2012-2014.
The project funding is for the first follow-up project of the network RML2future – a cooperation initiative of the regional and minority languages on the European level, which is supported by the EU and the autonomous region Trentino-South Tyrol.
The new two-year project will develop measures to raise awareness for the benefits and chances of multilingualism and language learning in a targeted way, using the languages of neighbouring countries and regional and minority languages and promote these in the form of a European awareness raising campaign.
It is our purpose to combine the European objective of multilingualism, as condition for creativity and innovation, with promoting linguistic diversity.
The campaign will in particular benefit the regional and minority languages. The second football-championship for the minorities EUROPEADA 2012 that will take place in Lusatia, Germany, in June 2012, will be the high publicity event that marks the occasion.
