ABTTF President: “We strongly condemn the evil mentality that planned to put up an anti-Islam poster opposite to the historic Çelebi Sultan Mehmet Mosque in the town of Didymoteicho. Unfortunately, this attack is a fundamental indicator of how widespread hate speech and Islamophobia is in our country and of a fascistic view’’.
According to a news report published by Gündem newspaper, an anti-Islam poster was found hanging on the wall of a disused place opposite to the historic Çelebi Sultan Mehmet Mosque in Didymoteicho, Evros Province, which was put there by an unidentified person or persons. The poster in question featured the slogan ‘Stop the Islamisation of Evros Now!’ The news report further indicated that the poster was noticed on Sunday 30 January in the evening by Süleyman Macır, President of the Association of Muslims of Didymoteicho and also reminded that the Çelebi Sultan Mehmet Mosque was damaged in a fire in 2017 and that the restoration works were still underway.
