ABTTF President: “It is a clear discrimination that Turkish teachers are not given appointments to get vaccinated. The health of teachers and students is at stake during the pandemic period. The authorities of our country should immediately solve this problem, and our teachers at our two schools should be able to get their vaccinations as soon as possible.”
The teachers belonging to the Turkish community in Western Thrace in Greece were not included in the Covid-19 vaccination list prior to the opening of schools. According to the Gündem and Birlik newspapers, Turkish teachers at two Turkish minority secondary and high schools in Komotini and Xanthi were not included among the educators who were decided to be vaccinated by the Greek Ministry of Health as part of the fight against the new type coronavirus (Covid-19). It was indicated that Turkish teachers at Xanthi Minority Middle and High School and Komotini Celal Bayar Minority Middle and High School were not given appointments through the online platform where educators made appointments to get vaccinated.
“The fact that the Greek teachers at two Turkish minority secondary and high schools in Komotini and Xanthi can make their appointments to get vaccination immediately while the Turkish teachers at the same schools are not given appointments to get vaccinated is a clear discrimination. It is not possible to explain with simple bureaucratic negligence that the names of Turkish teachers working in these schools are not included in the list submitted by the Ministry of Education to the Ministry of Health and containing the information of all educators in the country. The health of teachers and students is at stake during the pandemic period. The authorities of our country should immediately solve this problem, and our teachers at our two schools should be able to get their vaccinations as soon as possible”, said Halit Habip Oğlu, President of the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF).
