The elections for the school boards in the schools of the Turkish community in Western Thrace have been postponed again

21.04.2021

ABTTF President: “We call on the authorities of our country to respond to our requests regarding the school board elections in our schools and to immediately end the deadlock approach that it insists on.”

The elections for the school boards in the schools with autonomous status belonging to the Turkish community in Western Thrace have been postponed for the eighth time. In accordance with the decision taken by the Directorate of Primary and Secondary Education of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace in Greece, the elections for the school boards, scheduled for 20 April 2021, have been postponed to 18 May 2021.

“It has been revealed once again with the recent decision pertaining to the elections for the school boards in our schools that the authorities of our country lack good faith in resolving the ongoing problem regarding the school board elections urgently. Since the measures regarding the pandemic will be relaxed in our country and schools will be opened in May, we expect that as announced, the school board elections are realised on 18 May. We call on the authorities of our country to respond to our requests regarding the school board elections in our schools and to immediately end the deadlock approach that it insists on”, said Halit Habip Oğlu, President of the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF).
