Imprisonment and fine for Koray Hasan on the grounds of an accusation for an unauthorized renovation!

Koray Hasan, Ex-President of Komotini Turkish Youth Union (GTGB) founded in 1928, has been sentenced to 6 months of imprisonment and 5 thousand euros fine by the Court of First Instance with Single Judge on the grounds that he carried out allegedly an unauthorized renovation in the clubhouse of the Union.

Koray Hasan who served as the president of GTGB between 2010-2017 was found guilty and sentenced to imprisonment and fine at the hearing which was held on the grounds of the accusation for unauthorized painting of the building, tiling and renovating the toilets in the Union building.

Besides, Koray Hasan appeared before the judge a second time on the same day for a second case filed against him for similar crimes. The second case filed with the accusation of unauthorized renovation has been postponed to 18 June 2019 in order to find out which renovation procedures are subject to authorization.

Halit Habip Oğlu, President of Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF), made a statement about the issue and said “We condemn the imprisonment and fining of Dr. Koray Hasan, Ex-President of Komotini Turkish Youth Union. Imprisonment and fining of Hasan on the grounds that he carried out the renovation made with no other intention than improving physical conditions of the clubhouse during his tenure is an intimidation against the people and organizations representing the Turkish community in Western Thrace. Thereby, Greece that closes down our associations on the grounds that its names includes the word “Turkish” and that does not allow for the establishment of new ones has shown its intolerance against Turkish presence in the region.”
