The Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF) paid a working visit to Western Thrace, Greece. ABTTF delegation, formed by ABTTF President Halit Habip Oğlu and ABTTF Vice President Sami Yusuf visited the offices of the Muftis elected by the Turkish community in Western Thrace and had meetings with the Mufti of Rhodope and the President of Consultative Committee of Turkish Minority of Western Thrace (BTTADK) İbrahim Şerif and the Mufti of Xanthi Ahmet Mete on Saturday, 14 March 2020.
Within consultations and meetings in Western Thrace, ABTTF delegation visited İbrahim Şerif in his office in Komotini and congratulated Şerif for being re-elected the president of BTTADK. ABTTF President Halit Habip Oğlu expressed his support for the Consultative Committee and Şerif, the highest decision-making body of the Turkish community in Western Thrace and his readiness for all kinds of cooperation and support as ABTTF in the fight for rights and freedoms of the Turkish community in Western Thrace.
ABTTF delegation also visited Ahmet Mete in Xanthi. ABTTF delegation expressed its solidrartiy with Mete following his sentence to four-month of imprisonment in the case where he was allegedly accused of ‘usurpation of office’ as a result of having attended a funeral and having led a religious ceremony in the village of Glafki (Gökçepınar) following the death of Ahmet Katunlu, a member of the Turkish community in Western Thrace who died by drowning during his military service on 14 July 2016. ABTTF President Halit Habip Oğlu expressed support for the Mufti Mete as ABTTF and discussed the current problems of Western Thrace Turks with him.
